The biggest day so far on the track and field calendar has arrived for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. The Golden Hawk boys and girls travel to Tipton Thursday for the Class 2A State Qualifier. Mid-Prairie was last on the oval a week ago in Tipton for the River Valley Conference Championship meet. The Golden Hawk girls won their third consecutive conference championship with 128 points and eight RVC event titles. Events going gold included Danielle Hostetler in the 800 and 1500, Tabitha Evans in the 200, Ella Groenewold in high jump. In relays, it was the sprint medley with Madeline Schrader, Nevaeh Decker, Jovi and Tabitha Evans, the 4×100 and 4×200 with Schrader, Amara Jones, Evans and Evans and the distance med with Schrader, Jones, Greta Sieren and Hostetler.

The Golden Hawk boys were sixth at conference last week in Tipton. Top finishes included Emmett Swartzentruber runner-up in the mile, Jayse Yoder third in the 800, third for the 4×8 team of Blake Creed, Yoder, Swartzentruber and Preston Yutzy with Jayden Stafford competing in the wheelchair 100, 200, 400 and 800s.

Joining the Hawks tonight in Tipton are Camanche, Cardinal, Central Lee, Durant, Louisa-Muscatine, Mediapolis, Van Buren, West Branch, West Liberty and Wilton. The top two finishers in each event plus the next eight best performances from around the state are headed to Drake Stadium for next week’s Class 2A state meet. Action starts tonight at 4p.m. with field events and continues into the evening at Tipton City Park.
