Area girls’ golfers look to get the high school postseason started right by advancing from the Class 1A Region 5C tournament they’ll play in today in New London. The Highland Huskies will be looking to carry over the momentum of finishing second in team scoring at this year’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference Tournament. Highland sophomore Danika Kraus has the fifth-lowest average score per 18 holes at 103 strokes and has gone as low as 90 at a tournament this season.

Husky junior Kelsi Cerny has also had a solid year on the golf course, shooting 51 on average in nine-hole play. She also joins senior Jenna Waters, sophomore Adeline Krotz and freshmen Adisyn Prottsman and Emerson Schultz as averaging 111 strokes or less per 18 holes.

Winfield-Mount Union will be led by senior Alli Humphreys, who has shot an average 18-hole score of 105. Despite not playing 18 holes yet this season, Sigourney senior Zoe Webb has been steady, firing a score of just under 56 per nine holes. Wolves junior Lily Freeman and seniors Isabel Kann and Anna Anderson have managed to keep their nine-hole averages under 60, while Savage junior Emma Hammes shoots just over 61 per nine holes.

The Columbus Wildcats have been paced in scoring by freshmen Halley Wellington and Kinlee Brown. The top two individual scores and top two team scores will advance to the regional finals Wednesday, as will the top two individual players who were not on a qualifying team.
