When you win four state championships and make the state girls’ golf tournament every season since 2015, winning tends to become a habit. The Washington Demons have experienced an decade of excellence on the course, and this year’s team will look to live up to that lofty standard when they compete at the Class 3A Region 3 tournament today in Oskaloosa.

Two Washington seniors will be looking for a third straight trip to state. Seniors Makenna Conrad and Kaylin Long have not only won a state title and been to state in both of their seasons, but they both finished inside the top 20 at last year’s 3A tournament. Conrad has been near the top of the leaderboard all spring, averaging a score of just under 84 strokes in 18-hole competition, while Long averages a round of 88 per 18 holes.

Freshman Adalyn Long has put together a strong debut season, shooting an average 18-hole round of 89, while junior Maci Williams and seniors Mallary Johnson, Haley Mitchell and Alecia Goff will try to help push Washington to another team victory, having finished worse than first place only twice this season. Along with the hosting Oskaloosa Indians, the Demons will have to go through golfers from Fairfield, Pella, Knoxville, Lisbon, Carlisle, Clarke, Creston, Saydel, Winterset and Bondurant-Farrar.
