Last Wednesday, the Washington County Riverboat Foundation named the recipients of their 2023 Spring Grants.

The Highland Community School District was one such recipient, as they were awarded $37,000. Dean of Students for Highland, Bill Zywiec, tells KCII how they plan to use these funds. “What we’re looking to do is replace the locks that we currently have on our classroom doors at our secondary building for grades 6-12.”

When asked what the grant means for the school, Zywiec explained, “It’s huge. I mean, without the money today, this project would have had to go on hold. This is a project we didn’t want to have to put on hold, especially when you’re dealing with the safety of children. So with their help today, this is a project we’re gonna be able to complete this summer, so we’re excited about that.”

The Washington County Riverboat Foundation is the non-profit license holder for the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort, which provides all of their funding. WCRF gave out a total of 25 grants for their spring cycle, totaling $1,630,255.
