The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team wrapped up the 2023 campaign Tuesday in the Class 1A regional semifinals with a 6-0 loss at No. 6 Van Meter. The Bulldogs found two goals in the opening 40 minutes to open a 2-0 lead at the break. The Hawks regrouped at intermission with a new attacking plan to find the equalizers. The contest remained 2-0 until the 67th minute when the Bulldog speed got through the Golden Hawk back line to score twice, doubling the Van Meter lead to 4-0. They added two more in the 70th minute to reach the final score. Niva Helmuth was a standout in goal for the Golden Hawks, finishing the match with 23 saves.

The win moves Van Meter to 11-3 this year and into the regional finals of the 1A tournament to take on No. 13 Panorama who was a 5-4 winner over No. 14 Pella Christian Tuesday. With the loss, Mid-Prairie’s season comes to a close at 11-7. The Hawks say goodbye to five seniors, Kina Miller, Amara Jones, Sophia Baker, Paityn Jennings and Allison Bolanos.
