With Kalona Days just a few weeks away, those planning on attending are invited to participate in the event’s Fun Run/Walk to support a good cause. Fifty percent of the proceeds from this year’s race will go to research for Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, a rare form of breast cancer.
Tina Hershberger partnered with the Kalona Chamber of Commerce for this year’s event. Hershberger, who was diagnosed with Lobular Carcinoma in February, tells KCII what she hopes to get out of the Fun Run/Walk. “I wanted to try to bring knowledge and awareness through this run/walk this year to let women know that they really need to be aware of their bodies, and get in for their annual mammograms.”
Early bird registration for $25 continues through today. Registration during the month of June will be $35. The event, which includes a one-mile run, 5K, and trophies awarded to top finishers, is open to all ages. Hershberger added, “I just would like to have a lot of participants this year. At one time we had over 100 runners. Last year I think we only had 50, so I would like to challenge everyone to bring their friends and neighbors and participate this year with the rest of us.”
The Kalona Days Fun Run/Walk will be on the morning of Saturday, June 17. Registration begins at 7, the one-mile race starts at 7:40, and the 5K is at 8. With questions, or to register, contact the Kalona Chamber of Commerce at 319-656-2660 or email info@kalonachamber.com.
