The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team swept both games of a River Valley Conference doubleheader from the Tipton Tigers Tuesday at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman. The newly No. 1 ranked Hawks won the contests by scores of 8-6 and 3-1. In game one, Tipton scored twice in the top of the first to grab the early lead. Mid-Prairie erased that with a run in the first, a four spot in the second, a single run in the third and two more in the fourth to go up 8-2. The Tigers put on their rally caps late, scoring three times in the fifth and once more in the sixth, but Mid-Prairie was able to slam the door in the seventh for the win. Cain Brown had a big game at the top of the order with two hits, both doubles, to drive in two and score three times. Karson Grout knocked in two with a triple. Brock Harland was the winner on the hill with four innings of work, seven hits, five runs, one earned, two walks and five strikeouts. Carson Pence worked a clean seventh for his third save.
The nightcap featured a pair of aces with the Golden Hawks Collin Miller opposed by Tipton’s Davis Webb. Each team got a run in the first, Mid-Prairie scored two more in the third and those proved to be the difference. Grout had two hits, including his second triple of the night and scored a run. Camron Pickard had Mid-Prairie’s lone RBI. Dylan Henry and Alex Bean each scored once. Miller was dynamic on the bump, outdualing Webb, throwing a complete game win, giving up four hits, one earned run, walking two and striking out a dozen to move to 2-0. With the sweep, the Hawks improve to 7-2 this season. They travel to Tipton Thursday for a return contest with the Tigers.
