The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls of summer make twin road trips to Wilton tonight to take on the Beavers. The Golden Hawk softballers are 6-3 on the year, 4-1 in the River Valley Conference, following a weekend 8-3 loss to the Washington Demons at the Iowa City West Tournament. This season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .417 as a team with 80 hits and 75 runs scored. Brena Jehle is hitting .609 with 15 RBI and 14 total hits, all team bests. Dakota Mitchell has scored a team high 13 runs. In the circle, the Hawks team ERA is 3.02, with 44 innings, a .237 opponent batting average on 41 hits, 24 runs, 13 walks and 46 strikeouts. Sydney Knebel leads Mid-Prairie with a 2.71 mark. Wilton is 9-3 overall, 4-2 in the RVC after a weekend at the Northeast Tournament where they beat Maquoketa and were beaten by Central DeWitt. The Beavers, last year’s class 2A state runners-up, are ranked No. 4 in Class 2A, according to the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They are hitting .327 as a team with 85 runs scored and 112 total hits, led by Kaylee Coss at .550 with 22 total hits and 14RBI. Taylor Drayfahl has scored 14 times. In the circle, the Beavers have a team ERA of 2.67 in 76 innings with a .244 average against, 75 hits, 29 earned runs, 23 walks and 70 strikeouts. Charlotte Brown is 6-3 in 48 innings with a 2.33. Wilton has won 10 of the last 12 over the Hawks, including five straight with 11-2 and 8-7 victories last season.

The Mid-Prairie baseball team starts the day at 9-2 overall, 5-0 in the River Valley, winners of seven straight after sweeping West Branch Friday by 6-0 and 6-2 scores in Wellman. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 1 in Class 2A this week in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. The Hawks are hitting .255 as a team, with 60 runs and 70 hits. Karson Grout has a .371 with 13 hits and 12 runs scored, all best on the team. Alex Bean leads the Hawks with nine RBI. On the hill, Mid-Prairie has sparkling 2.30 team ERA in 76 innings with a .208 average against, giving up 60 hits, 25 earned runs, 35 walks and 95 strikeouts. Brock Harland, Collin Miller and Alex Bean have all won a pair of games for the Hawks. Brady Weber, Joe Hall, Cain Brown and Landry Gingerich have worked a combined 18 innings without allowing an earned run. Wilton is 5-8 this year, 1-7 in the River Valley. They swept a non-conference doubleheader from Midland Friday 6-2 and 4-2. The Beavers are hitting .212 with 43 runs on 63 hits. Cade Sourhada is at .306 this year with 11 hits and nine RBI all best for the team with Owen Hassell and Ben Garvin each scoring a team leading seven times. Wilton’s staff ERA is 4.66 in 80 innings with a .198 opponent batting average, giving up 79 hits, 53 earned runs, 57 walks and 105 strikeouts. Landyn Putman is the leader with a 2-2 record and 2.47 ERA in 23 innings. Mid-Prairie has won five straight in the series including a 6-1 victory last season. Action gets started at 5p.m. in Wilton with game one of the softball doubleheader, and baseball game one at 5:30p.m.
