The top ranked in 2A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team gets an opportunity to face stout competition this weekend when they travel to the Lancer Invitational at North Scott. The Hawks are ranked No. 1 in 2A for the second straight week by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. They are 12-3 on the season and a perfect 8-0 in the River Valley Conference after an 8-2 win Thursday against Wilton. Mid-Prairie is hitting .293 as a team this year with 93 runs on 115 hits. Karson Grout is the team leader with a .429 average with 21 hits and 16 runs scored. Alex Bean has driven in a team high 16. On the mound, the Mid-Prairie staff has a 2.23 ERA in 103 innings with a .210 opponent batting average, giving up 83 hits, 33 earned runs, 46 walks and 122 strikeouts. Brock Harland and Collin Miller are both 3-0 this year with 0.45 and 1.93 ERAs respectively. Alex Bean and Brady Weber have both won two games. Landry Gingerich and Cain Brown have yet to allow a run out of the pen.

Mid-Prairie will start their time in Eldridge taking on Class 4A Cedar Falls. The Tigers are 8-6 this year, 4-6 in the Mississippi Valley Conference. They have won five in a row including a sweep of Dubuque Senior Monday 9-7 and 6-0. On the year, CF is hitting .286 with 82 runs on 103 hits. Individually, Colin Coonradt is at .421 to lead the way. Logan Wroe has a team best 19 hits, 18 runs scored and 14RBI. The Tiger’s staff has a team ERA of 2.55 with a .211 opponent average on 91 hits, 34 earned runs, 48 walks and 73 punchouts. Jack Murphy is 2-0 with 0.49 ERA. These two teams met last year with the Tigers winning 18-8. Also attending the tourney are Burlington Notre Dame and the home Lancers. Action continues all day Saturday at North Scott High School.
