Resurfacing of the track at Mid-Prairie High School is underway.
The six-lane track reconstruction is being overseen by Mid-Prairie Construction Manager, Carl A. Nelson and Company. LL Pelling out of North Liberty is handling the soil work and asphalt base, while Midwest Track is applying the rubber surface and striping. The Mid-Prairie School Board approved the two-bid package on February 27 in the amount of $471,497.80.
Materials from the original track will be repurposed to improve the north baseball parking lot. That lot will be closed for today’s baseball games with Iowa City Regina. Those attending the games are asked to use the main entrance parking.
A busy summer has multiple projects in the works for the Mid-Prairie Community School District. New softball lights were installed in April, and construction that will add additional classrooms at East Elementary and Mid-Prairie Middle School began in May.
While the track reconstruction is currently ahead of schedule, the district hopes to have it completed before the start of the 2023-24 school year.
