Washington Demon baseball suffered another close loss, falling 7-5 at home to Oskaloosa last night. Washington scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-1 lead, but Oskaloosa turned the game on its head late.

After the Indians scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead, Demon senior Ethan Patterson doubled and scored the tying run on a base hit from junior catcher Caleb Zieglowsky. But Oskie scored three more times in the sixth, and despite a rally that including the tying run getting into scoring position with two outs in the final inning, Washington could not equalize.

Freshman Kael Williams led the Demon lineup with three hits and one run batted in. Patterson had two doubles and scored two runs. After a pair of one-run losses the night before against Fairfield as well, Washington head coach TJ Rausch told KCII Sports he wanted to make sure his guys would not be distraught.

“My message right there at the end of the game was ‘I promise you, this ship’s going to turn around,'” Rausch said. “It’s the little things that are holding us back right now. We know it. We know what they are. I promise you it’s going to turn around, and it’s going to turn right around at the perfect time, around playoff time.”

The loss is the sixth in a row for Washington, which falls to 3-12. The Demons are off until tomorrow night, when they will finish their conference series against Fairfield by hosting the Trojans at Dick Sojka Memorial Field.
