The Columbus Wildcats knocked off the Lone Tree Lions 12-1 in five innings Tuesday night. Columbus took a 2-0 lead after an inning of play, but seven runs in the third is where the Wildcats really took control of the game.

Freshman Kennedy Woepking led the Columbus lineup with three hits and two runs batted in. Sophomore Lily Coil and eighth-grader Ellie Sanders had two hits and two runs scored each, while Woepking pitched the Wildcats to victory by yielding only two hits in five innings of work and striking out six.

Lone Tree junior Lila Bell drove in the Lions’ only run of the night with a double in the fourth inning. Sophomores Vivian Zaruba and Rylee Shield also had a hit for Lone Tree, which dropped to 4-4 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and 7-8 overall. Meanwhile, Columbus moved to 5-3 in conference play and 7-5 overall.
