The Highland Huskies kept the good times rolling on the diamond with a pair of victories Friday against Winfield-Mount Union. Highland softball wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, putting up 10 runs in the first inning and cruising to a 13-1 victory over WMU in three innings.

Senior Abbi Stransky led the Husky lineup with two hits, including a double, and two runs batted in. Junior Sarah Burton also had two hits and two RBI while scoring twice. Junior Peyton Brun also cranked a double and drove in three for the Huskies, who have won nine of their last 12 games and are now 7-3 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and 12-7 overall. Senior Anna Anderson scored the only run for the Wolves, which fall to 3-10 in conference play and 4-11 overall.

Winfield-Mount Union struck first in baseball Friday with a run in the top of the first. But Highland senior pitcher Ethan Paisley shut the Wolves down from there, allowing only two hits and two walks and piling up eight strikeouts in a complete-game effort. The Huskies then broke up a tie game in the bottom of the sixth to win a pitcher’s duel 2-1.

Despite not having a hit, Highland senior Peyton Yeggy scored both runs for the Huskies, who improve to 7-3 in the Super Conference North and 9-8 overall. WMU drops to 4-6 in league play and 4-9 overall. While both packs of Wolves start the week by hosting Mediapolis tonight, both Highland teams begin the week by welcoming New London to Riverside this evening.
