Washington Demon softball maintained their place near the top of the Southeast Conference with a pair of wins in a home doubleheader against Keokuk last night. The Demons simply kept the line moving in game one, pounding out 10 singles to score nine runs in the first inning and six in the second, winning 15-0 after only three frames.

Eighth-grader Colbie Greiner had two of those base hits and finished with three runs batted in. Kendall Hinrichsen also had two hits and three RBI and scored twice, while fellow sophomore Ella Greiner finished with two hits, two runs scored and two driven in.

Keokuk would strike first in game two, but Washington scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. The Demons had another three runs ready after the Chiefs tied the game in the second, and a four-spot in the fourth was sandwiched in between two-run innings to set up a 14-4 win that took only five frames.

Sophomore Leighton Salazar was the leader in the lead-off spot, finishing a home run shy of the cycle in a three-hit night and putting up two RBI and three runs scored. Senior Haley Mitchell had two hits, two scored and two driven in, while Hinrichsen and fellow sophomore Bella Salazar had two hits and scored two runs each.

Colbie Greiner pitched the final three innings of the second game to get the win as Washington improved to 9-2 in the Southeast Conference and 16-10 overall. The Demons are back in action tonight when they visit Central Lee.
