The Washington Demons were swept in a conference baseball doubleheader at home against Keokuk last night. Keokuk put up three runs in the first inning of the first game, but Washington scored twice in the second on a double from junior Chase Greiner and a base hit from senior Austin Rebling.

After the Chiefs scored once more in the middle innings, the Demons tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a run-scoring single from Isaac Vetter and a sacrifice fly from fellow senior Ethan Patterson.

Unfortunately, things spiraled out of control for Washington from that point on. Keokuk took advantage of five walks handed out by Demon pitching and five errors committed by the defense in the top of the seventh to score nine runs and go on to win 13-4. The Chiefs hammered Washington pitching in game two, scoring six runs in the second inning and eight in the fourth on 14 hits to get a 14-3 victory that only took five frames.

Vetter finished with three hits across both games, while Patterson had two hits in as many at-bats in the second matchup. Washington falls to 4-7 in the Southeast Conference and 4-14 overall. The Demons are back on the diamond this evening when they travel to Central Lee.
