The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team steps outside of River Valley Conference play tonight when they entertain the Fairfield Trojans in Wellman. The Golden Hawks are 17-6 this season, 12-1 in first place in the River Valley Conference and winners of five in a row after sweeping a Monday doubleheader against West Liberty 3-2 and 6-3. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A this week according to the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. They are hitting .287 as a team with 139 runs on 171 hits. Karson Grout is at .417 with 30 hits and 20 runs scored, all team highs. He and Alex Bean share the lead with 21 driven in. On the mound, Mid-Prairie has a group ERA of 2.83 in 153 innings with a .219 opponent average. They have given up 128 hits, 62 earned runs, 71 walks, and 171 strikeouts. Brady Weber, Brock Harland and Collin Miller are a combined 11-0 with a 1.60 ERA in 79 innings.

Fairfield is 9-15 on the year and 5-6 in the Southeast Conference after splitting a doubleheader with Mt. Pleasant Monday, including a 13-0 win and 7-6 loss. This year, the Trojans are hitting .238 with 129 runs on 147 hits. Tallon Bates is the individual leader at .290 with 22 runs scored and 15 RBI. Dain Burkhart has a team best 22 hits. The Trojan pitching staff has a 4.16 ERA in 158 innings with a .261 opponent average, with 167 hits, 94 earned runs, 94 walks and 132 strikeouts. Tate Allen is 3-2 in 36 innings with a 1.75ERA. Mid-Prairie has won three straight in the series including an 8-6 victory last year.
