Winfield-Mount Union fell in a pair of home games on the diamond against Mediapolis Monday. WMU baseball took a 2-1 lead in the third inning, but three runs each in the fifth and sixth put Mediapolis back on top, and the Bulldogs scored seven times in the final inning to pull away for a 12-3 victory.
Senior Preston Prior led the Wolves with two hits and a run scored, while junior Cael Phillips also came up with two hits and one run batted in. Senior Grant Watson and sophomore Riley Kaalberg scored one run each as Winfield-Mount Union fell to 4-6 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and 4-10 overall.
WMU softball also jumped in front with a run in each of the first two innings against Mediapolis, but the Bulldogs exploded for 15 runs in the third inning and would win 15-3 in only three frames. Wolves senior Anna Anderson has two hits and scored a run, while freshman Quin Smith drove in a run on one hit. Winfield-Mount Union dropped to 3-10 in conference play and 4-12 overall.
