Youth hunters in Louisa County now have the opportunity to register for a hunter safety course. It will be offered at the Langwood Education Center on Thursday, August 17 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, August 19 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Iowa residents born after January 1, 1972 and nonresidents born after January 1, 1967 must complete a hunter education course to obtain a hunting license. Participants must be at least 11 years old to attend, however certificates are not valid until the child’s 12th birthday.
Students must attend both classes to become certified, however there are two other options to obtain a license. Students 16 years or older can take an online class, then participate in the field day. There is a fee for the online class, and students must present a certificate at the field day, showing that they have passed. Louisa County Conservation must be notified if you will only be attending the field day.
For adults 18 years or older, an online-only option is available. Hands-on activities are not required, as adults can pass the class completely online. Once again, there is a fee for the online course.
Pre-registration is required, and can be done at license.gooutdoorsiowa.com. When creating an account, it must be for the person who will be taking the course. With questions, contact Louisa County Conservation at 319-523-8381 or email conservation@louisacountyia.gov.
