Hillcrest Academy baseball traveled to Winfield last night, bringing the brooms with them as they knocked off the Wolves 11-1 in five to complete the season sweep.

Held to just four hits the night before, the Ravens utilized two hits and four walks in the opening frame to jump to an early 4-0 lead. Hillcrest scored at least one in each of the five innings as a total of ten free passes and twelve hits widened the gap all game. Grant Bender and Jace Rempel provided a pair of RBI’s each, while Josiah Beachy plated three Ravens, reaching base all four times he stepped in the box.

Seth Ours continued his success on the mound. The sophomore right-hander earned his fifth win of the year, limiting the Wolves to just one run on four hits. An error-free performance from the Hillcrest defense kept Winfield from getting anything going at the plate.

The Wolves saw work from pitchers Trevor Phillips, Cody Milks, and Cael Phillips in the loss. The biggest hit of the night for Winfield came off the bat of Lane Genkinger. The senior first baseman rocked a triple in the fifth that nearly extended the game, before Ours shut down his final two hitters faced. Winfield dropped to 4-11.

Now 16-3, atop the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North, Hillcrest is on the road again this afternoon as they tangle with Central Lee.
