In a battle of state-ranked softball teams, the Sigourney Savages fell in both games of the doubleheader they hosted with Wilton last night. Game one was the ultimate pitchers’ duel, with the only run scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning when Wilton finally cracked Sigourney starting pitcher Carly Goodwin and went on to win 1-0.
Sigourney took the initial lead in game two by scoring three runs in the first, but Wilton, the seventh-ranked team in Class 2A, responded with a run in each of the first two innings and used a six-spot in the third to take the lead for good, going on to win 11-3. The Savages, ranked eighth in Class 1A, fall to 17-4 and will look for a bounce-back later this evening when they travel to conference rival English Valleys.
