The Highland Huskies remain one of the area’s top softball teams after another win last night, knocking off a red-hot Columbus Wildcats squad 11-5. Highland took control of a game they already led 3-2 by scoring four runs each in the fifth and sixth innings, handing Columbus a second straight loss after the Wildcats had won eight of their previous 10. Columbus drops to 7-4 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and 9-6 overall.

Highland also started the week by defeating New London Monday, scoring five runs in the first inning on their way to a 12-0 victory. Sophomore Lilly Barre led the lineup with three hits, including a double, and three runs scored. Senior Abbi Stransky also smacked a double for one of her two hits and scored twice while posting three runs batted in.

Junior Peyton Brun finished with two hits and scored twice, while junior pitcher Grace Prybil was one hit batter shy of four perfect innings. The Huskies are now 13-7, while Highland baseball suffered a 13-5 loss to New London that dropped them to 9-9. Both Husky teams travel to meet West Burlington tonight.
