The Columbus Wildcats knocked off Pekin 14-1 in softball last night. Columbus exploded for 11 runs in the first inning and rolled to a three-inning victory from there. The win ends a three-game losing streak, as Columbus had lost the previous evening at Van Buren County 12-2. The Wildcats got a run in the third and fourth innings to stay close, but the Warriors blew open a 6-2 game with six runs in the fifth.
Senior catcher Jocelyn Fulton swatted a home run for Columbus. Junior outfielder Bailey Rice also had a hit and a run scored. The Wildcats are 8-4 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and 10-8 overall going into tonight’s battle with Hillcrest Academy, which you can hear starting at 6:30 on 106.1 FM KCII.
