A Burlington Man was sentenced last week to 20 years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking activities.

According to court documents, 39-year-old Robert Gantz was identified as a source of methamphetamine in southeast Iowa. Officers purchased meth from Gantz with the use of a confidential source. In a subsequent search of a vehicle occupied by Gantz, officers located a handgun, two loaded magazines, methamphetamine, marijuana, and other items indicative of drug trafficking.

At the time of his arrest, Gantz admitted to being involved in the distribution of methamphetamine. He was also under supervision for a prior state drug conviction at the time of his arrest. Following his term of imprisonment, Gantz will be required to serve five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was investigated by the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force and Burlington Police Department.
