The Highland Huskies hit all the right notes in a pair of victories over the Lone Tree Lions in Southeast Iowa Super Conference softball and baseball Friday night. Highland softball was already up 2-0 when the Huskies exploded for a five-run inning in the third and never looked back, winning 10-0 over Lone Tree in five frames.
With the win, Highland improves to 10-3 in the Super Conference North and 16-8 overall. Lone Tree drops to 9-14 overall and finishes conference play this season with a record of 6-8.
Highland baseball also used the middle innings to their advantage, building on a 3-1 lead with nine runs in the third to knock off Lone Tree 16-1 in five frames. The night was a showcase for leadoff hitter William Dunbar. The sophomore finished a home run shy of the cycle and had four hits, two runs scored, six runs batted in and four stolen bases.
Fellow sophomore Logan McFarland had three base hits and three steals and scored twice. Husky senior Peyton Yeggy swatted a home run for one of his two hits and had four RBI, while senior Kody Grecian and junior Tristin Richardson had two hits each and combined to score three runs.
Highland finishes conference play with an 8-4 record and improves to 10-11 overall. Lone Tree falls to 1-10 in the league and 1-15 overall ahead of their regular-season finale Tuesday against BGM.
