The No. 2 in Class 2A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team is riding high after a Monday sweep of River Valley Conference foe Durant by 8-0 and 8-2 scores in Wellman. In the opener, senior Collin Miller tossed a complete game shut out at the ‘Cats, giving up just four hits and striking out three. The Golden Hawk offense scored once in the first and four times in the second to lead 5-0 early. They added on one in the sixth and two more in the seventh to finish the win. At the plate, Mid-Prairie pounded out 10 hits and were led by a 5 RBI night from Karson Grout on two hits, one of which was a grand slam. Cain Brown and Brady Weber added RBI. Weber, Alex Bean and Camron Pickard each had two hit nights. Pickard also scored twice.
In the nightcap, the Golden Hawks rode solid pitching performances from a pair of sophomores to collect the win. Weber went six strong, giving up just two earned runs and striking out four. Conner Wiles came out of the pen for the final three outs. The Hawks got contributions up and down the lineup with six different players driving in a run, and showed patience, drawing seven walks. Miller had a pair of hits and an RBI. Gentry Bontrager scored three times, Kaden Kos and Grout each came home twice. Grout, Bean, Weber, Brock Harland, and Dylan Henry all added an RBI.
The sweep moves Mid-Prairie to 22-6 on the year, sends them to 16-1 in the RVC, giving them the conference title outright and a 10-game winning streak. The Golden Hawks will next be in action tonight when they travel to Dick Sojka Memorial Field to battle Washington.
