The City of Sigourney is offering four days of festivities leading up to Independence Day this year, beginning July 1.

Events kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday with the 4-Person Bucket Golf Tournament at the Sigourney Golf & Country Club. In the afternoon, a bags tournament will be held on the southeast corner of the square, with proceeds funding the fireworks show. KC Elite, a local dance/gymnastics group is hosting a block party for kids from 1-3 p.m. Saturday is capped off with a street dance and music performed by Greg Peiffer.

Sunday’s festivities include an Ecumenical Service on the square, an open house at the Carnegie Library, and slow pitch softball, horse shoe, and pickleball tournaments. Monday afternoon and evening will see the Kiwanis Beer Tent open at 5, the Hospice Pie Auction, Riverside 4-H Kid Tractor Pull, and live music from Jennifer Handling & The Revolution.

It all leads up to Tuesday, July 4 with wall-to-wall activities beginning at 7 a.m. Independence day events are highlighted by the parade at 10:30, free swim at the Sigourney Pool from 1-5 p.m., a trivia competition in Legion Park, and the fireworks at dusk.

Co-coordinator for the events in Sigourney, Emily Wohler, encourages residents and guests alike to attend. “It’s a great celebration. We’ve been doing this for nearly forty years. [It’s] always a lot of fun.”
