The Sigourney Savages knocked off the Highland Huskies in baseball 10-1 Tuesday night. Sigourney used a big first inning to jump in front, leading 5-0 before Highland had ever taken an at-bat, and five more runs in the third inning put the Savages in charge for good.
Senior Ty Shafranek had two hits and a run scored in the lead-off spot for Sigourney. Savage sophomores Caden Clarahan and Issac Bruns had just one hit each, but both slugged a homer for that one hit and each had three runs batted in. Shafranek got the pitching victory by throwing four-and-two-thirds innings and giving up no earned runs on three hits while striking out six.
Sigourney also cruised to a 12-0 victory at Central City last night. The Savages finish the regular season with a record of 16-6 and will next face Danville in the first round of the Class 1A District 10 playoffs Saturday night.
