The next generation of golfers hit the course this week to learn the finer points of the game at the 2023 Kalona Optimist Junior Golf Camp. The event ran Monday through Thursday at the Kalona Golf Course. Participants met each morning from 8a.m. to noon and received instruction from Mid-Prairie boys and girls golf coaches Kelby Bender and Tracy McArtor along with members of this year’s state qualifying Golden Hawk girls and Mid-Prairie boys teams, college golfers and various course professionals. Focus was on driving, tee to green work, short game, putting, contests, ettiquette, rules and more with daily contests and prizes. The final day of camp Thursday featured a tournament. Area youth age seven to 18 participated.
