The Washington County 4-H Communications Night was held on Tuesday, July 11th, at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Sixty 4-H’ers gave educational presentations, and six participated in the extemporaneous speaking division. 4-H prides itself on developing good communicators. This is one activity to build those skills. Congratulations to all participants on a job well done. 4-H Communications Night is held in conjunction with the Washington County Fair. 32 of the Junior 4-H members who presented in this category. Advancing to the Iowa State Fair are Landon Beinhart of the Dutch Creek Flyers and his presentation “Fishing”, Lovella Peiffer of the Bows & Bullets and her presentation “Music Theory/Composition”. Leah Kelley of the Limecreek Livewires and her presentation “Planet Venus” was selected as the State Fair Alternate. Beinhart was awarded the Noon Kiwanis Judge’s Choice Award.

15 of the Intermediate 4-H members who presented in this category. Advancing to the Iowa State Fair are Hannah Rodgers of the Green Acres and her presentation “Iron and Running”, Caedyn Huston of the Limecreek Livewires with his presentation “Carrying the Colors at Prairie Grove”, and Elijah Statler of the Limecreek Livewires with his presentation “How to Hydro- Dip European Skull Mounts.” Adelyn Huston of the Limecreek Livewires and her presentation “Girls Wrestling in Iowa” was selected as the State Fair Alternate. Rodgers was awarded the Noon Kiwanis Judge’s Choice Award.

10 Senior 4-H members presented senior presentations. Alexa Huber of the Limecreek Limelights and her presentation “African Swine Fever” was chosen to represent Washington County at the Iowa State Fair. Grace Puttmann of the Limecreek Limelights with her presentation “Mustand Horse” was selected as the State Fair Alternate. Puttmann was awarded the Noon Kiwanis Judge’s Choice Award.

During the Extemporaneous Speaking contest participants draw a topic, have 30 minutes to write a 4-6 minute speech, and then deliver it to an audience. Alex Murphy of the Washington Go-Getters and Zoey Dennler of the Horse and Pony 4-H Club were selected to represent Washington County in this division at the Iowa State Fair. Halli Hershberger of the Limecreek Livewires was selected as the State Fair Alternate. Murphy was also awarded the Noon Kiwanis Judge’s Choice Award.
