The Mayor’s Classic Car Cruise has been a tradition in Kalona since 2020. After being rained out in June, the event will now be held on Saturday, August 5, beginning at 5 p.m.

Kalona Mayor, Mark Robe, started the Car Cruise during the pandemic as a way for residents to interact from a distance. After positive reviews, the cruise is entering its fourth year. Anyone interested in entering their car is asked to meet at Sinclair Tractor around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Residents can admire the cars as they make their way through town, as well as at the Kalona City Park, where the route ends. Also at the park will be multiple food trucks, and a performance from the Do’s and Don’ts band, who plays 50’s and 60’s music.

Whether it be spectators or someone with a car they’d like to enter into the cruise, Robe hopes for a great turnout. “I’d love to have 100 cars but we’ll take what we can get. It’s been usually between 65 and 85. It takes about a half hour for everything to go through. Hopefully the weather cooperates and I hope a lot of people come out to watch and a lot of people come out to participate.”
