A stellar summer for Hillcrest Academy placed the Ravens in the “Who’s Who” of 1A baseball.
The Ravens found themselves in the top 10 of Class 1A in nine different team categories. The Hillcrest pitching staff led the state, allowing just 44 walks. Their 1.05WHIP was second best in Iowa. They allowed just 40 earned runs, fourth fewest, the seventh fewest hits, 116, and had the eighth lowest team ERA at 1.84.
Offensively, Hillcrest hit the second most homers in 1A with 17. Their 106 team strikeouts were the third fewest in 1A. The Ravens slugged .501, sixth in Iowa and had a .463OBP, ninth best.
Individually, senior Luke Schrock, Southeast Iowa Superconference Player of the Year, was third in 1A with a 0.59WHIP, for those with at least 30 innings thrown. His 5-0 record was second best in the state.
Senior Grant Bender belted five homers, fifth in 1A. He finished with an RBI total of 39, 10th most in the state.
Sophomore Seth Ours was seventh in 1A with a 0.67ERA for those with at least 40 innings of work. His 0.71 WHIP was fifth in the state. His four earned runs allowed were fourth fewest in 1A, his three walks third in the state, finishing with a 6-1 record.
Fellow sophomore Liam Schrock was third in 1A with six home runs, drew 29 walks, seventh most in 1A and threw out 15 runners from behind the plate, third most in the state.
The Ravens were undefeated champions of the Southeast Iowa Superconference at 12-0, Class 1A District 10 Champions and finished with a 21-5 overall record.
