U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke with KCII News last week. August 21st is Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day; KCII News asked what the importance of that day is for Iowans. “We have 108,000 people that die of drug substance abuse. 70,000 of those are directly related to Fentanyl. Fentanyl is one of the deadliest, maybe the most deadliest, drugs you can have. So this awareness day you’re asking me about it ought to bring attention and a public education to how serious this is.” According to DEA.gov, in 2022, the DEA seized more than 58.3 million pills containing fentanyl and more than 13,000 pounds of fentanyl powder. This equates to nearly 387.9 million potentially deadly doses of fentanyl that never reached our communities. Today is Fentanyl Awareness and Prevention Day.
