U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke with KCII News about Farm Bill Reforms that he is seeking to improve the Conservation Reform Program, “To put a cap on the total amount of money that one farmer can get at $250,000. I do this so that we target the safety net program for small or medium size farmers. Then we would eliminate a subsidy for big farmers to get bigger, and big farmers that cash rent that outbid the smaller farmers for the land. I want to make it possible for young people to get into farming. I don’t want the Federal Government subsidizing big farmers.” The Farm Bill gradually increased the acreage cap for Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) to 27 million by 2023 and authorized two new pilot programs through CRP that prioritize practices that help benefit water resources.
