A pair of KCII area teams dropped contests Friday in the official opening week of the high school football season. The Highland Huskies were on the road in Stanwood to face North Cedar. The Knights took a 38-6 victory. Each team found the end zone in the first quarter with North Cedar holding an 8-6 lead after a successful two point try. The Knights would pitch a shut out the rest of the way, leading 20-6 at half, 26-6 after three and put the game away with two more touchdowns in the fourth. North Cedar finished with 396 total yards, including 284 on the ground and forced five Highland turnovers. The Highland defense also had three takeaways through the air. Big nights for the Knights came from quarterback Teagan Weber with 219 yards of total offense 112 on eight of 15 passing with a touchdown and 107 on the ground on 12 carries. Peyton Clark had 130 yards on 12 totes with three scores and caught a 16 yard touchdown pass. Nate Wood had nine tackles. The Huskies are now 0-1 with a trip to Danville this week.

After a week 0 win in Illinois, Lone Tree fell into the loss column for the first time this year, coming up short against Iowa Valley 60-14. Iowa Valley put up 446 total yards, including 375 on the ground. Nolan Kriegel helped light up the scoreboard for the Tigers with 217 yards of total offense including 146 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns on the ground. He was also three of six through the air for 71 yards and a score. All of those connections were with Caleb Haack. Dawson Smith had seven tackles to lead the Tiger defense. Lone Tree is now 1-1 and off on Friday. They will take the field at home against Midland on September 8th.
