The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team is back on the court tonight when they travel to Independence for a non-conference triangular. The Hawks are 5-1 this year after a 4-1 Saturday and runner-up showing at the Central Lee tournament. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 11 in Class 3A in the first poll of the year issued by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Hawks have piled up 182 digs, 168 kills with a .402 kill efficiency, 160 assists, 47 aces with an 80% serve efficiency, and 19 blocks. Individual leaders include Jovi Evans with 98 assists, Dakota Mitchell with 69 digs, Harper Pacha with 51 kills, Katelyn Harland with 11 aces and Callie Huber with eight blocks.
Vinton-Shellsburg is 4-3 this season. They went 2-2 at the Meskwaki Tournament Saturday, beating Colo-Nesco and the home Warriors before falling to Denver-Tripoli and Ankeny Christian. This year the Vikettes have 232 digs, 137 kills and a .146 kill efficiency, 120 assists, 38 aces with a 94% serve efficency and 17 blocks. Individual leaders include Sydney Walton with 101 assists and 11 aces, Julia Johnson with 77 digs, Ashlyn Murray with 43 kills, and Peytin Clemensen with seven blocks. This is the first all-time meeting between the two schools.
Independence is 2-2 this year. The Mustangs hosted a home tournament Saturday where they topped Oelwein and Janesville before falling to Union La Porte City and West Delaware. As a team they have 138 digs, 66 kills with a .119 kill efficiency, 59 assists, 23 blocks and 14 aces with a 92% serve efficiency rating. Individually, Sophia McGarvey has 31 digs, Leah House 28 assists, Marie Gorman 25 kills, Morgan Ristvedt nine blocks and Olivia Albert five aces. These two teams met last August with Mid-Prairie earning the win in a sweep. Action starts tonight at 5:30p.m. at Independence High School.
