Sigourney-Keota football made a statement with their first victory of the 2023 season Friday night, as the Cobras opened for business at the Snake Pit this fall with a 21-0 victory over Mediapolis, the sixth-ranked team in Class 2A.

SK got points right away but made a 7-0 lead in the first quarter stand up all the way to the half. The Cobras got a touchdown run from junior halfback Issac Bruns, as well as a trick-play touchdown pass from senior Jake Moore to junior Brody Greiner and a 75-yard scoring bomb from quarterback Sawyer Stout to fellow senior Cole Kindred.

The big story was the Sigourney-Keota defense, which allowed only 194 total yards and forced Mediapolis to gain less than four yards per play. Moore led SK with seven-and-a-half tackles, while senior lineman Evan Vittetoe had 2.5 tackles for loss.

On offense, Bruns finished with 131 yards on the ground on 20 carries. Senior Kale Clarahan also had 60 yards on five rushing attempts for SK, which responds to its Week-One loss to PCM. The Cobras will next take on Mid-Prairie, a game you can hear Friday night starting at 6:30 on 102.5 FM and AM 1380 KCII.
