As the State of Iowa is experiencing its worst drought in the last decade, these conditions continue to spread across the KCII listening area. 

After seeing its first areas of extreme drought of the year last week, percentages in Iowa County have grown to 52.24 percent, while 70.92 percent of Johnson County has been classified as extreme. Extreme drought is the second-highest level of intensity on the scale used by the National Drought Mitigation Center. 

Additional extreme drought was seen in both Keokuk and Jefferson Counties at 20.74 and 18.51 percent respectively. Meanwhile, a majority of Washington, Henry, and Louisa Counties are under severe drought, one level below extreme.
