The Highland Community School District Board of Education met in regular session on Monday.

The Board first heard from Kevin Miller, who provided them with updates on youth basketball and asked for support to continue growing the program. He was followed by three members of the Highland Student Council, who gave a rundown of homecoming activities scheduled for the school next week.

Moving to action items, the board heard from Band Director, Andrew McDonald, about a music trip to Nashville. The trip, which is scheduled for April 2024, was approved. A resolution for a Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant proposal was also approved, as they are due on September 19. The grant would cover half the cost of new elementary bleachers, projected to cost $69,377 overall.

After a good attendance at their first meeting, the Board will hold another for the Highland Facilities Advisory Committee at the end of the month. Superintendent, Ken Crawford, explains, “Very happy with that turnout, and I thought it was a very good discussion. But our next meeting is on the 27th at six o’clock. That’s a Wednesday. That’s gonna be a little bit more finances, and starting to have conversations on what projects matter to people that are in the room.”

The Highland School Board will meet next on Monday, October 9 at 5 p.m. in the High School Board Room.
