A number of area football teams are close to making their way into the state rankings heading into Week Four. The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves are the only team to be ranked by the Associated Press this week, but three others were receiving votes across multiple classes.

After a 34-8 victory over WACO, WMU is now tied for second in 8-man football according to the AP rankings. No team received more first-place votes than the undefeated Wolves, who will look to improve to 4-0 when they travel to face Montezuma Saturday.

WACO falls outside of the top 10 for the first time in over a year, but the Warriors had the second-most votes among unranked 8-man teams. In Class A, Columbus is still receiving votes, as is Sigourney-Keota in Class 1A. While the Cobras take on Cardinal and the Wildcats battle Pekin on Friday, the Warriors face HLV this week.
