Anyone interested in joining the Sigourney City Council has until Thursday, September 21 to complete their candidate filing. This year, the First Ward-Precinct, Third Ward-Precinct, and one at-large position will be on the ballot in November.

To hold office in the City, a candidate must be an eligible elector, meet the same qualifications required to vote, and be a resident of the city he or she plans to serve. In the case of Ward-Precinct positions, the candidate must live within the ward-precinct boundaries. Nomination papers and ward-precinct maps are available at the City Clerk’s office. Nominees must obtain at least 10 eligible signatures, but are encouraged to get more in the event that any are challenged or thrown out.

The City of Sigourney City Council meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. Council members are also assigned to three committees and will chair one of these. For more information about becoming a candidate for the Sigourney City Council, contact City Clerk Angie Alderson at 641-622-3080.
