On the season, Mid-Prairie scores 21 points per game and gives up 30, averaging 291 yards per night, 158 through the air. Weber is 53 of 90 for 614 yards, six touchdowns and five picks. His favorite target is Hershberger with 20 catches for 237 yards and a touchdown. Eherenfelt has 784 all-purpose yards and five scores. Kaden Kos leads the Golden Hawk defense with 34 tackles. They have four takeaways this year.
Davis County is 2-2 this year, they opened up district play last week by handing Central Lee their first loss of the season, 20-14. The Mustangs won the contest despite being outgained 296 to 267. Quarterback Carter Will and running back Brett Prevo combined for 213 yards and two touchdowns. Davis County scores 16 points per game and gives up 22. They average 230 yards per night, 187 of that on the ground. Will is 16 of 37 through the air for 172 yards, two scores and three interceptions. His favorite target is Cason Young with six grabs for 73 yards and a score. On the ground, Will and Prevo have combined for 100 carries, 531 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Owen Bell has 30 tackles. As a team the Mustangs have six takeaways. This week, Golden Hawk head coach Daren Lambert talked about his team’s play last week in recording their first win of the season, what the Mustangs bring to the table and his keys to a win. Lambert said, “(Against West Burlington), we did not play well on either side of the ball in the first quarter, but the biggest takeaway is that the adjustment was made, and it was made quickly. It was all aspects. We were a lot more intense up front. That got things rolling. Guys got comfortable. Big run from Hudson (Ehrenfelt), that was opened up by great blocking on the edge. We started getting stops and backing those up with scores. I thought we tackled a lot better. We were balanced. It was 200 yards rushing and 200 yards passing. We’ve been more balanced over the last few weeks. When you can do that it makes it tough on the opposing defense. We want to start fast. On offense we want to have a scoring drive and if it’s defense we want a three-and-out. We just haven’t had that fast start through the first four games. Offensively, (Davis County) wants to spread you out and run the ball but they’ll also take some shots downfield. They have a quarterback who is a junior and played a lot as a sophomore. Big guy, 6’2, 205lbs. Then they have some guys on the perimeter that they like to throw it deep to. We have to be ready for that and limit the big play. Be physical and do your job.”
Mid-Prairie is 7-2 all-time against Davis County in a series that started in 2008. The Hawks have won six straight over the Mustangs including last year’s, 42-6 win in Wellman on Senior Night.
