Two local volleyball teams fought to stay at the top of the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Thursday night. The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves remained unbeaten in conference play by defeating Louisa-Muscatine in straight sets, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-10, but the WACO Warriors were not at fortunate, falling at home to Wapello in straight sets, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-17.

Winfield-Mount Union was led by senior outside hitter Audrie Gipple’s 16 kills. Senior Tessa Huston added four kills and eight digs, while senior setter Aurey Meeker dished out 16 assists in addition to four kills, four serving aces and five digs, helping the Wolves improve to 5-0 in the Super Conference North and 13-10 overall.

Meanwhile, WACO falls to 4-1 in conference action and now has an overall record of 14-8. The Warriors and WMU are next slated to meet each other on the volleyball court Tuesday night.
