The Highland Huskies came away with a third straight conference volleyball victory Tuesday night, defeating the Lone Tree Lions in four sets on senior night in Riverside. Highland won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-21, and when Lone Tree extended the match by winning the third frame 25-19, the Huskies stamped out any hope of a comeback by claiming the fourth set 25-16.
Highland was led by a big night from senior middle blocker Lorelei Lueck, who had match highs of 14 kills and four blocked shots. Fellow senior Peyton Brun also had a strong night on the front row with 12 kills, while senior Courtney Chalupa had a whopping seven serving aces to go with three kills and seven digs.
Do-everything senior Sarah Burton put up seven kills, an ace and 21 digs, while senior setter Grace Prybil added two kills and nine digs to the 34 assists she handed out. The win helps the Huskies improve to 4-2 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 10-12 overall.
Meanwhile, Lone Tree falls to 1-6 in the Super Conference North and 3-17 in total. While the Lions next face Hillcrest Academy at home this evening, Highland will be traveling to Louisa-Muscatine tonight.
