The Columbus Wildcats are closing in on a playoff football bid after they rolled past Van Buren County 61-14 Thursday night. Columbus had a 40-0 lead before the first quarter was over and never relinquished control.

All-state senior halfback Kaden Amigon had another big night for the Wildcats, running for 207 yards and four touchdowns on just nine carries. Junior tailback Riley Kaalberg needed only five rushes to gain 116 yards and also score a TD. Amigon and Kaalberg also each caught a scoring pass from sophomore quarterback Trevor Phillips, who completed seven out of eight total pass attempts for 144 yards.

Senior Cole Storm added five carries for 33 yards and a touchdown to the rushing attack, while sophomore Leo Corona recovered a fumble for a score to help Columbus win their fourth straight game and improve to 5-1 in Class A District 6 and 5-2 overall. The Wildcats will officially clinch a berth in the state playoffs with a victory over Danville next Friday in the regular-season finale.
