A tradition for more than 60 years, the City of Columbus Junction is recognizing Columbus Day with a Party on Main on Saturday, October 14.

The full day of activities are held downtown, and begin with the Lions breakfast from 7-10 a.m. at the Senior Center. Registration for the Columbus 5K Run/Walk at Chautauqua Park is at 7:30 a.m. followed by the race at 8:30.

A variety of activities for all ages fill the late morning and afternoon, including a kids bounce house, petting zoo, car show, CJ’s Got Talent, a bags tournament, and pumpkin throwing contest. Distinguished citizens will be honored at 11 a.m. with the Columbus Day Parade beginning at 2 p.m. Several food trucks will be available near Main Street, as well as live music.

Chairperson for the Columbus Day Committee, Kenan Todd, tells KCII that guests who attend the event will have plenty of space to park, with a shuttle service to take them to the fun. “A portion of Main Street will be closed to parking but there will be a free shuttle service from the Methodist Church parking lot and from the Monkey Run Park. So there will be parking in abundance with golf cart shuttles to and from Main Street to enjoy all of the festivities.”
