Join the Washington Public Library for a presentation on craft from visiting writer Koada Heacock from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. As a recently converted poet, Heacock is interested in genre-bending narrative pieces. They enjoy working with experimental and expansive poetry and fiction. As a Montana native, they have a particular interest in writing about rural life and spaces. As a descendant of the Brothertown tribe in Wisconsin and a former resident of the Salish-Kootenai reservation, they love working with stories inspired by oral storytelling, folklore, and mythology. Heacock believes in pushing the boundaries of institutional expectations to deliver compelling, raw, and innovative writing. The first hour is devoted to the visiting writer, and the second hour is for workshopping participant’s submissions. Open to adults and teens. Supported by the University of Iowa’s Arts Share.
