The Sigourney Savages took a split of their matches in this year’s South Iowa Cedar League Volleyball Tournament. Sigourney defeated Tri-County in straight sets Monday, 25-12, 25-13 and 25-21, but the Savages were swept Thursday by HLV, 25-17 and 25-12.
Senior Amiya Smallwood led Sigourney with 14 kills for the tournament and also had 15 digs and a serving ace. Fellow hitter Josephine Moore had nine kills, three aces and 18 digs. In the middle, junior Reagan Clarahan finished with nine kills, two aces and five blocks, while senior Emma Hammes also had five blocks and posted four kills.
Senior setter Ava Fineran dished out 21 assists to go with two kills, an ace and four digs, while junior Taylor Rozenboom added 18 assists and 11 digs as the Savages fall to 15-8 to end the regular season. Sigourney will start the postseason Monday with a first-round matchup with Montezuma in Class 1A Region 5.
