The Iowa City Kickers Complex hosts the largest state qualifier cross country meet in Iowa today when 21 Class 1A schools bring their boys and girls teams to compete. Eight of those schools are from the KCII listening area, including Hillcrest Academy, Columbus, Highland, Keota, Lone Tree, Sigourney, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union.

The Hillcrest Ravens last ran at Mediapolis a week ago. Marie Yoder led the Raven girls, winning her first ever varsity race. The boys were paced by Micah Gerber and Jesse Blossom who finished ninth and tenth respectively.

The Highland Huskies also raced last at MEPO. Siena Stanerson led the Highland girls in fourth while the boys top finish was Brock Thoman 21st.

For Columbus, their last meet was on their home course at Cedarcrest on the 10th. Top ‘Cats included Damian Vergara fifth for the boys and Naveiah Garza 10th for the girls.

The Sigourney Savages were at the South Iowa Cedar League Championship meet last week. Troy Klett led Sigourney with a fifth place finish on the boys side. Addison Yates was eighth place for the girls. The Keota Eagles also ran at the SICL Meet at Tri-County.

For Lone Tree, their last tuneup was Mediapolis a week ago where Vivan Zaruba went eighth in the girls race and Joey Birtcher 11th for the boys.

The WACO Warriors also made the trip to MEPO last week. The Warrior boys saw Keiran Luitjens take 17th and the girls Justine Lynn 24th.

For Winfield-Mt. Union, their final regular season meet was at Cedarcrest in Columbus Junction. The boys won the team title with Kohlby Newom finishing in third. The WMU girls were led by Emma Richardson 28th.

Other teams joining these eight include the No. 10 Collins-Maxwell girls and their boys, the No. 8 Danville boys and their girls, Durant, English Valleys, Holy Trinity Catholic, Louisa-Muscatine, New London, Prince of Peace, Rivermont Collegiate, Tri-County, Van Buren, Wapello and the home No. 4 Regina Regal boys and their No. 7 girls. There are a total of  five ranked runners in today’s boys and girls fields combined. Action gets underway at 4p.m. at the Iowa City Kickers Complex.
