Time is running out to enjoy the fall colors in Iowa as leaves are changing quickly, and falling even faster.

Northeast Iowa is past peak fall color, but there are still vibrant colors throughout its forests. Oaks are turning yellow and bronze, but many trees are starting to drop their leaves.

Oaks are at peak color in central Iowa. Bur oaks are yellow, while white and red oaks are crimson with combinations of green and red. Strong winds have stripped away leaves from many of the early changers such as cottonwood, walnut, elm, and hackberry.

Southeast Iowa is currently experiencing its peak fall color. Maples are red, yellow, and orange. Oaks are still mostly green, but changing rapidly.
