The football season has come to a close for the Sigourney-Keota Cobras with a 28-18 loss to Dike-New Hartford in the second round of the Class 1A state playoffs Friday night. Only trailing 7-3 at halftime, SK was blitzed in the third quarter as Dike-New Hartford stretched their lead to 28-10 and never looked back.

Senior quarterback Sawyer Stout had a solid night throwing the football, passing for 147 yards and two touchdowns but only completing eight total passes. Senior Cole Kindred was a home-run threat with six catches for 136 yards, but the Cobras averaged only three-and-a-half yards per rushing attempt, with senior Kale Clarahan leading the ground attack with 11 carries for 54 yards.

Senior Aiden McGuire paced the defense with seven total tackles and one-and-a-half tackles for loss, but it was not enough to earn Sigourney-Keota a fourth straight trip to the state quarterfinals. The Cobras finish the season with a record of 8-2. In addition to Stout, Kindred, Clarahan and McGuire, SK will be losing seniors Carter Wyatt, Chase Sieren, Jake Moore, Reid Molyneux, Ashton Thomas, Dylan Renner, Hunter Sieren, Evan Vittetoe, Brock Alderson and Conner Strand.
